Box Score 2 Charlotte, NC -- The JWU Volleyball Team finished a busy week with a tri-match at home on Saturday. The Wildcats won the first match and lost the second to finish the day 1-1. Both matches featured strong play from the Wildcats, who worked hard and competed as a team throughout the day.
The first match saw the Wildcats face the Hornets from Morris College. JWU deliberately quickened the pace against the Hornets and worked around their block to find holes in the defense. Morris's defense was scrappy and kept the ball in play, but the Wildcats were able to post 39 kills as a team to finish off the match in 3 sets. Individual game scores were 25-14, 25-9, and 25-15. JWU got contributions from all players in the match. Leading the Wildcats were Lucy Herrmann with 13 kills and Reanna Bray with 10 kills and a .364 hitting percentage. Hailey Thrift had 30 assists, 3 kills, and 3 service aces on the match, and the defense was led by Summer Meredith with 13 digs and Sarah Slaughter with 12.
In the second match of the day and the fifth in three days for the Wildcats, they squared off with Livingstone College. This match featured some great net play and long rallies from the teams, but in the end, Livingstone's big block was too difficult for the Wildcats to overcome. Despite the Wildcats' best efforts, Livingstone defeated JWU 3-0. Individual game scores were 25-17, 25-16, and 25-23. JWU was led by Lucy Herrmann with 10 kills and Reanna Bray with 9 kills. Hailey Thrift had 23 assists, and Summer Meredith had 17 digs with Samantha Johnson and Jackie Clifford each contributing 10 digs.
The Wildcats (11-16) welcome Catawba Valley Community College to the Student Center on Tuesday, October 7. Game time is 7:00 PM.
