Box Score 3 Raleigh, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team finished 1-2 on a three game road trip this weekend, losing in straight sets to Mid-Atlantic Christian University and Shaw University before rebounding to sweep Morris College in straight sets.
The Wildcats (14-14) snapped an eight game slide despite playing shorthanded throughout the weekend.
"We entered the weekend with a short-handed team for a variety of reasons," said Johnson & Wales head coach Callie Phillips. "With seven active players, my team pulled themselves together and played the JWU way. I'm very proud of their effort and grateful for their hard work and determination. They were fun to coach."
The team opened on Friday in Elizabeth City, NC, with a 25-22, 25-10, 25-21 loss at Mid-Atlantic Christian.
Mattie McGill led the Wildcats with six kills and 12 digs while Halle Franklin picked up 15 assists. Joy Leonard also picked up 12 digs in the effort.
The Wildcats then traveled to Raleigh, NC, for the Shaw University Tri-Match. The hosts would win the opener 25-11, 25-14, 25-17.
McGill once again paced the attack with eight kills while Franklin collected another 16 assists. Kaylin Doctor led the defensive effort with 11 digs.
Johnson & Wales rebounded convincingly against Morris College later in the day, collecting a 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 victory.
The Wildcats tallied an eye-popping 74 digs throughout the match, with McGill recording 22 digs while Franklin and Doctor chipped in with 20 and 18 digs, respectively.
Franklin also had a season high 25 assists while McGill recorded 11 kills.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Tuesday when they host Laurel University at 7:00 p.m.
