Box Score 2 Charlotte, NC - The USCAA #16 Johnson & Wales volleyball team split a pair of matches at their Homecoming Tri-Match on Friday, losing to Wake Tech Community College in straight sets (26-24, 26-24, 25-20) before rebounding to defeat Davidson County Community College in five sets (25-21, 18-25, 25-20, 23-25, 15-8).
The Wildcats (16-15) were led in the opener by Mattie McGill with seven kills and 10 digs. Halle Franklin picked up 15 assists while Summer Trzcinski collected 12 digs defensively.
Against Davidson County, Franklin would collect a season high 41 assists to pace Johnson & Wales to victory. Three players would record double-digit kills, including Lucy Herrmann (17), McGill (12), and Joy Leonard (10).
The Wildcats were very active defensively, picking up 82 digs as a team. Samantha Johnson led the way with 18, followed by McGill (16), Kaylin Doctor (15), and Franklin (13).
"This was a nice effort for our team today," said head coach Callie Franklin. "The first match didn't quite go our way, but we rebounded nicely to get a win in the second. Thanks to all of our fans who stuck with us into the late evening."
Johnson & Wales will celebrate Senior Night when it hosts Sandhills Community College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
