Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team saw a late second half rally come up short in a 73-65 loss to NAIA opponent Montreat College on Tuesday.
The Wildcats (3-7) trailed by 18 with 7:06 remaining in the third quarter, but were able to climb all the way back and tie the game on a pair of free throws by Precillya Dixon with 3:48 remaining.
Montreat responded with a three-pointer by Niroshka Perez - her only field goal of the game - to reestablish the lead and pull away for the victory.
Donyelle Stuetley led Johnson & Wales with 16 points and six rebounds, while Vanderia Shackleford added 15 points.
The Wildcats struggled in the paint, as Montreat outscored them 40-30 in that area and held a 35-27 rebounding advantage.
Shannon Jackson led Montreat with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and nine rebounds.
Johnson & Wales will resume play after the holiday break when they host NCAA Division 3 foe Greensboro College on Jan. 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
