Box Score Charlotte, NC -- Scoring was the theme of
Saturday's Valentine's Day Doubleheader as the women put five
scorers in double figures and the men had three twenty-point
scorers en route to a sweep of Trinity Baptist College in the
Student Center.
The Lady Wildcats asserted themselves quickly in the first half,
building an eighteen-point lead by halfime at 38-20 behind 14
points from Justina Tyler. JWU went on to maintain that
margin as Donyelle Stuetley took over the scoring duties and put in
15 points of her own in the second half. The Lady Wildcats
outperformed Trinity Baptist in nearly every statistical category
and put together a very convincing team effort. Vanderia
Shackleford led the Wildcats in scoring with 19 points.
Justina Tyler finished with 17 points, Donyelle Stuetley had
15, and Marketa Smalls had 10. Jaquana Pauling continued her
strong play of late with another double-double of 13 points and 12
rebounds.
The JWU men put up 88 points in their game after also building a
first-half lead and maintaining it through the end. Up 49-32
at halftime, the Wildcats kept Trinity Baptist at bay while
shooting 61% on field goals and 30% from outside the arc. Rickey
Porter led the Wildcats with 25 points, and Joshua Cohen
added 20 points. DeQuincey
Bennett connected on six three-pointers to finish with 21
points on the day.
The women's team improves to 9-13 on the season. The Lady
Wildcats take on Allen University on Thursday, February 19 at 5:30
PM.
The #5 men's team continues its quest for a postseason berth and
improves to 16-10. They welcome College of Faith to the
Student Center on Monday, February 16. Game time is 7:30 PM.
