Box Score Thomasville, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's volleyball team won in straight sets on Friday, defeating Davidson County Community College 25-23, 26-24, 25-20.
The Wildcats (2-2) were led by solid front line play from Lucy Herrmann (10 kills) and Cameron Leonhardt (two solo blocks and six block assists). Hailey Thrift did well to organize the attack, collecting 21 assists on the night.
"This game is always a personal one for me since I am from this area," said Wildcats head coach Callie Phillips. "I was really happy to see my team be consistent and work hard as a unit. We have a quick turnaround for our tournament tomorrow, and we are looking forward to returning to the Haley Jo Plummer Classic at Rockingham CC."
Key defensive work by Halle Franklin (eight digs) and Samantha Johnson (nine digs) helped keep Johnson & Wales on top in what proved to be three very tight sets.
Davidson County fell to 0-1 on the year.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they travel to Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, NC, for the Haley Jo Plummer Classic. Play begins at 11:00 a.m.
