Box Score 2 Raleigh, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team saw their nine game winning streak snapped at the William Peace University Quad Match on Saturday, losing 26-24, 25-25, 25-9 to the hosts and 20-25, 25-12, 15-19, 25-14 to North Carolina Wesleyan.
The Wildcats (11-5) were led in the opening match by Lucy Hermann's 10 kills and 10 digs. Samantha Johnson led the defensive effort with 19 digs while Hailey Thrift collected 19 assists.
Against North Carolina Wesleyan, Herrmann continued her strong play, leading the Wildcats in kills (11) and digs (18). Thrift, the USCAA leader in total assists, picked up 19 more assists while Johnson added 16 digs in the losing effort.
"We accepted the invitation to this quad match to see what we needed to improve," said Wildcats head coach Callie Phillips. "The two teams today were fundamentally sound and made us work. We know what we need to do to complete moving forward. We'll get there."
The Wildcats resume play on Tuesday when they travel to Pineville, NC, to play Sandhills Community College. Play begins at 7:00 p.m.
