Box Score Pinehurst, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team fell in straight sets at Sandhills Community College on Tuesday, losing by the scores of 25-21, 27-25, 25-21.
The Wildcats (11-6) played most of the match without USCAA Player of the Week Lucy Herrmann, forcing the team to make some late changes to the lineup.
"Sometimes things don't go your way in volleyball, and tonight was one of those nights," said head coach Callie Phillips. "We had several players step up for us because of a last minute lineup change, but we couldn't quite get it done. I feel like if we had closed out the second game when we had the chance, it could have been a different outcome for us."
Mattie McGill and Joy Leonard led Johnson & Wales with seven kills each, while Hailey Thrift picked up 22 assists.
Samantha Johnson and Halle Franklin led the defensive effort with 14 digs and 12 digs, respectively.
The Wildcats will resume play on Thursday when they travel to High Point, NC, to play against Laurel University. Play will begin at 7:00 p.m.
