Volleyball Sweeps Laurel on the Road

Box Score

High Point, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team won in straight sets at Laurel University on Thursday, claiming a 25-14, 25-10, 25-14 victory and snapping a three game losing streak.

The Wildcats (12-6) were led by setter Hailey Thrift, who recorded a triple-double with 10 kills, 25 assists, and 12 digs.

Joy Leonard finished with 11 kills while Lucy Herrmann added 10.  Samantha Johnson led the defensive effort with 14 digs.

"This was a nice win for us," said Wildcats head coach Callie Phillips.  "We controlled the match and took advantage of what the defense was giving us. Laurel is a scrappy team, and we worked well as a team to score."

The Wildcats will resume play on Tuesday when they host Rockingham Community College at 6:00 p.m.  The match has been dedicated as "John Jordan Night", in honor of the women's basketball coach at Johnson & Wales.  Fans are encouraged to wear purple in support of Coach Jordan's fight against pancreatic cancer.
