Box Score Charlotte, NC - On a night to honor deceased women's basketball coach John Jordan, the Johnson & Wales volleyball team made quick work of Rockingham Community College, winning in straight sets 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.
The Wildcats (13-6) picked up their second win of the year over Rockingham and have already equalled last season's win total with 15 games remaining.
The team was welcomed by a sea of purple - not the traditional blue and white of their fanbase - as the campus paid homage to Jordan's fight against pancreatic cancer.
"It was an honor to win a game in straight sets on Coach Jordan Night," said Wildcats head coach Callie Phillips. "John was my friend and colleague, and I'm glad that my team played hard and well in his memory. I learned a lot from him, and I will carry that with me throughout my career. We look forward to our weekend tournament in Kentucky where we will see how we stack up with some of the best teams in the USCAA."
Lucy Herrmann had 10 kills while Joy Leonard chipped in with seven, including the kills to clinch the first and second sets. Hailey Thrift contributed 20 assists on the night to go with nine digs.
The Wildcats will head to Berea, KY, on Saturday to play in the Berea College USCAA Tournament. Play will begin at 4:00 p.m.
