Box Score Montreat, NC - NAIA rival Montreat College led wire-to-wire as the USCAA #17 Johnson & Wales women's basketball team lost 72-43 on Saturday.
The Wildcats (4-9) struggled to find their shot in the first half, connecting on just 22 percent from the field on 8-of-36 shooting and making just 2-of-7 free throw attempts.
As a result, Montreat was able to jump out to a 21-6 lead in the first quarter and extended their advantage to 41-18 by halftime.
Danica Ford was the lone Wildcat in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
Montreat's Darah DeWalt led all scorers with 27 points on the evening.
Johnson & Wales will resume play on Tuesday when they host USCAA #13 Warren Wilson College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
