Box Score Columbia, SC - The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team lost for the second time in as many games to Allen University, suffering an 87-64 loss on the road Wednesday.
Things looked a bit different for the Wildcats (4-12) from the outset, as they were able to evade the slow starts that had been plaguing them in recent contests. Johnson & Wales held a 19-18 advantage at the end of the first quarter and trailed by just four points at half time.
The Wildcats also saw a dramatic improvement in turnovers from a week ago, committing just 13 on the night compared with 33 turnovers on Jan. 20.
However, the hosts responded with a massive third quarter, outscoring Johnson & Wales 26-13 to establish a lead they would never relinquish.
Vanderia Shackleford led the Wildcats in scoring with 24 points - the same amount she posted just one week ago against Allen in an 83-72 loss at home. Jaquana Pauling added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Wildcats will resume play on Saturday when they travel to Elizabeth City, NC, to play USCAA foe Mid-Atlantic Christian. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
