Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales women's basketball team opened 2016 with a 65-46 loss at home to NCAA Division 3 foe Greensboro College on Wednesday.
Bianca Covington was the lone player to score in double figures for the Wildcats (3-8) with 11 points - all of them from the free throw line.
It was an unusual night, statistically, for the hosts as the Wildcats scored just 22 points from the field on 10-of-48 shooting, but managed 24 points from the free throw line on 33 attempts.
The team's scoring woes were due, in part, to a first quarter injury to leading scorer and rebounder Donyelle Stuetley. The senior center limped off the court with just under three minutes remaining in the period and never returned.
Vanderia Shackleford chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds for Johnson & Wales while Jaquana Pauling added nine points of her own.
Greensboro's Alexis Hite led all scorers with 13 points.
The Wildcats will resume play on Jan. 12 when they host Columbia International University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
