Wildcat Rally Not Enough

Box Score

Montreat, NC - Johnson and Wales Charlotte's men's basketball team traveled to Montreat College on Friday night for their penultimate game of 2016. After falling behind by double-digits in the first half, the 17th ranked Wildcats (3-7) nearly made it all the way back before finally falling to the host Cavaliers (10-2).

JWU actually got off to a fast start, leading 13-10 behind 8 quick points from Rickey Porter. Montreat then ripped off a 34-14 run to take a 17 point lead, their largest of the game with 2:20 remaining in the first half. The Wildcats closed the gap, scoring the last seven points of the half to go into the break trailing by 10, 44-34.

JWU slowly whittled away at the Cavalier lead in the second half, until a basket by Porter pulled the Wildcats to within one at 77-76 with 1:30 to play. That would be as close as they would come, however, as Montreat executed down the stretch in route to a 84-78 win.

Porter led all scorers in the game with 20 points, and he and Jonathan Paramore each tallied 6 rebounds. Alcyone Moore also shone for JWU, scoring a career high 17 points.

The Wildcats play their final game of 2016 on Monday, as they travel to Buies Creek for a 7pm game against Campbell.
