Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson and Wales women's basketball team returned to action from the Thanksgiving break as they hosted Greensoro College (1-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats (4-4) were able to hang in with the Pride for much of the game despite a subpar shooting performance, but eventually came up on the short end of a 56-49 score.
JWU scratched and clawed to stay in the game in the first half, trailing by one at the break despite making just 9 of their 34 field goal attempts, and 1 of their 10 3 pointers. The contest remained nip and tuck through the 3rd quarter before a decisive 8-2 Greensboro run mid way through the 4th gave them a 10 point lead that proved to be insurmountable for the Wildcats.
Donyelle Stuetley, Bianca Covington, and Ineesha Hankerson all had 8 points for Johnson and Wales, while Anaja Matthews and Vanderia Shackleford added 7 each. Stuetley grabbed 8 rebounds as well to lead the way on the boards.
The Wildcats have a week off before they host in-state USCAA rival Mid-Atlantic Christian on Saturday, December 10th at 1:00pm.
