Box Score Swannanoa, NC - In a meeting of nationally ranked teams, the #20 Johnson & Wales women's basketball team surrendered a 20-point halftime lead, falling 86-77 in overtime at #13 Warren Wilson College.
The Wildcats (6-15) stormed out to a 42-22 lead by the end of the second quarter, led by Amber Gladden's 14 first half points.
The second half, however, completely belonged to the Owls (13-12). The hosts shot a blistering 16-of-34 from the field in the second half and opened the fourth quarter with a 25-7 run to turn the game on its head and claim a 66-61 lead.
Johnson & Wales responded late in regulation, as Vanderia Shackleford would score six of the next eight points - including a jumper with 46 seconds remaining - to force overtime.
In the extra period, a quick three pointer by Warren Wilson's Danasia Dumas gave the Owls the lead for good, as the hosts outscored Johnson & Wales 17-8 in the final five minutes.
Shackleford finished with a game high 30 points. Gladden added a career high 24 points for the Wildcats while Jaquana Pauling just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Dumas led Warren Wilson with 27 points, including a 14-of-15 performance from the free throw line.
The Wildcats resume play on Saturday when they travel to Front Royal, VA, to play USCAA foe Christendom College. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m.
