Box Score Thomasville, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team claimed a four-set victory in its season opener at Davidson County Community College on Tuesday, winning 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 26-24.
The victory marks the second time in three years that the Lady Wildcats (1-0) have opened the season with a victory.
"Davidson County is always a quality opponent, and this time was no different," said Johnson & Wales head coach Callie Phillips. "I'm very pleased with our effort in our first match. Our veteran leaders stepped up and helped our young team handle the ups and downs nicely. I am quite optimistic about where this team can go this season."
Returning USCAA All-American Lucy Herrmann led the way with 15 kills while freshman Toniya Scott added 13 in the attack for Johnson & Wales. Freshman Donna Harris paced the attack with 28 assists while sophomore Halle Franklin led defensively with 13 digs.
The Lady Wildcats resume play on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Toccoa, GA, to play Toccoa Falls College.
