Box Score 2 Wentworth, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team maintained its perfect start to the season on Saturday at the Haley Jo Plummer Classic, winning twice in straight sets. The team defeated host Rockingham Community College 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 in the opener, followed by a 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Louisburg College.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 4-0 for the first time in program history and haven't dropped a set since their season opener, a four-set victory over Davidson Community College.
"I am so happy with our progression this season," said Johnson & Wales head coach Callie Phillips. "We have gotten better with every match, and today's trimatch showed that. It was truly a team effort as every team member played and contributed today. We hope to keep this momentum moving forward and continue to improve."
Against Rockingham, senior Lucy Herrmann continued her strong start to the campaign, recording 11 kills and 10 digs. Donna Harris paced the attack with 16 assists while Halle Franklin led the defensive effort with 16 digs.
Three different players reached double digits in kills against Louisburg, with freshman Johmillet Berrios leading the way with 11 kills and 15 digs. Herrmann also had 11 kills while Toniya Scott added 10 for the Lady Wildcats.
Harris posted 29 assists in the match, while Franklin added 23 more digs to her total.
Johnson & Wales resumes play on Monday when they travel to Pinehurst, NC, to play Sandhills Community College. Play begins at 6:00 p.m.
