Volleyball Falls to Shaw in Straight Sets

Box Score

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales volleyball team fell in straight sets to NCAA Division 2 rival Shaw University on Tuesday, losing by the scores of 26-24, 25-16, 26-24 at the Wildcat Center.

For the Lady Wildcats (8-2), it was the first time they had lost in straight sets in nearly 11 months, and they didn't go easy, forcing the first and third sets to go into tiebreakers.

"This was a huge learning experience for us tonight," said Johnson & Wales head coach Callie Phillips.  "We will work as we move forward on how to handle a situation that challenges us without losing sight of our game plan and having small mistakes turn into larger ones.  Shaw definitely challenged us to tonight and showed us where we can make improvements."

Lucy Herrmann led the attack with 13 kills while also posting 12 digs on the night.  Donna Harris posted 24 assists while Halle Franklin led the defensive effort with 15 digs.

The team resumes play on Thursday as they host Greensboro College at the Wildcat Center.  Play is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
