Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales men's basketball team fought back from a 16-point second half deficit, but fell just short in a 74-69 loss to NAIA opponent Vorhees College on Monday.
Senior forward Rickey Porter scored a team high 19 points for the Wildcats (9-19), including a pair of free throws with 21 seconds remaining to pull Johnson & Wales within one.
Junior guard Alyone Moore finished with a double-double, posting 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Immediately after Porter's late free throws, the Wildcats were forced to foul. DJ Evans restored the lead, sinking both ends of the one-and-one.
Johnson & Wales had one more chance to tie the game, but Vorhees forced a turnover by Jayvoine Parker, leading to a game-clinching layup by Dominique Mixon.
Vorhees was led by Denzel Famble with 28 points.
The Wildcats will play their season finale on Thursday when they host The Apprentice School. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Center.
