Toccoa, GA - The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA, losing in straight sets to Pensacola Christian before suffering a 3-1 loss to host Toccoa Falls later in the afternoon.

In the opener, the Wildcats (0-2) fell 25-22, 25-15, 25-18 and struggled to find their rhythm.  Madison Steed led Johnson & Wales with eight kills while Moana Reid picked up 14 assists.  Kendall Watson led the team with eight digs.

"In the first match, we played conservatively and got out of sync," said head coach Callie Phillips. "We got forced into playing a different type of volleyball, and we didn't respond well."

In the later match, Johnson & Wales found themselves in four very tight sets against Toccoa Falls, but only managed to come out on top once, falling 27-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22.

Johmillet Berrios finished with nine kills for the Wildcats.  Reid picked up 24 assists and Keri Ketchie added 12 for the visitors.  Toniya Scott led the defense with 15 digs, one block solo, and four block assists.

"We improved a great deal moving into the second match, but we faced a tougher opponent," said Phillips.  "We looked good in spots.  We'll just need to fill in those gaps with more quality play.  We'll get there, and we have our first opportunity to move forward on Monday."

The Wildcats will resume play on Monday when they travel to Wentworth, NC, to play Rockingham Community College.  Play is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
