JWU Volleyball Falls to Allen in Five Sets

Box Score

Columbia, SC - The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team was unable to make a two-set advantage hold up at NAIA foe Allen University on Tuesday, falling 22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-12.

Toniya Scott led the Wildcats (1-3) with 10 kills, 12 digs, one block and four block assists on the night while Moana Reid paced the attack with 19 assists.

Five different players reached double figures in digs for Johnson & Wales, with Halle Franklin posting a team high 19 on the evening.

"Usually when you see a team win the first two and then drop the next three, it signifies a letdown from that team," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "That was not the case for us tonight.  We fought hard and stood up to a team from a quality NAIA conference on their home court.  We battled every step of the way, and I'm proud of our effort and composure.  We look forward to seeing them again when they come to the Wildcat Center on opening night.  We're hoping our fans will come out and pack the house for us.  I'm also encouraged by our play going into our tournament this weekend."

The Wildcats will resume play on Friday when they travel to Monaca, PA, for the Penn State Beaver 2017 USCAA Volleyball Classic.  The team will open play at 2:00 p.m. against Penn State Fayette.
