Wildcats Suffer Narrow Loss to Local Rival Johnson C. Smith

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team suffered a narrow five-set loss at local rival Johnson C. Smith on Tuesday, losing 22-25, 25-7, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10.

Johmillet Berrios finished with 14 kills and 11 digs for the Wildcats (4-6) against the NCAA D2 affiliated Bulls.

Toniya Scott added 10 kills for Johnson & Wales while Moana Reid and Halle Franklin finished with 21 and 14 assists, respectively.  Kendall Watson led the defense with 19 digs.

"We had our chances tonight," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "We looked really good in spots and made some big plays, but we came up just a little short. We'll keep working. We always do."

The Wildcats will resume play on Thursday when they travel to Rocky Mount, NC, to play against North Carolina Wesleyan College.  Play is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
