Winston-Salem, NC - The Johnson & Wales University volleyball team split a pair of matches at Salem College on Saturday, defeating Agness Scott in five sets before falling in straight sets to host team Salem.

The Wildcats (5-8) came from behind against Agness Scott to win 25-22, 18-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-10 in the opener.  Victoria Hicklin posted 13 kills to go along with an impressive .545 hitting percentage for Johnson & Wales.  Johmillet Berrios and Toniya Scott also reached double figures in kills with 11 and 10, respectively.

Moana Reid posted 31 assists while Halle Franklin added 19 of her own.  Defensively, Berrios led the squad with 21 digs.

Johnson & Wales failed to find the same offensive success against Salem in the second match, falling 25-13, 25-20, 25-18.

Berrios finished with a team high five kills while Franklin led with nine assists.  Kendall Watson contributed 17 digs on the day for the Wildcats.

"I was very encouraged by our play today," said head coach Callie Phillips.  "We fought to get a win in our first match and played well in the process. We ran into a strong defensive team in the second match and gave up points trying to make plays. We were fighting and learned a lot in the process."

The Wildcats will resume play on Tuesday when they host Sandhills Community College at the Wildcat Center.  Play is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
