Charlotte, N.C. - The USCAA #5 Johnson & Wales volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Wildcat Center, defeating Rockingham County Community College in four sets before losing a five-set affair to Wake Tech Community College.

The Wildcats (10-9) saw off Rockingham in the opener, winning 25-23, 25-9, 22-25, 25-8.

Toniya Scott led Johnson & Wales with eight kills while Halle Franklin and Moana Reid posted 16 and 15 assists, respectively.  Kendall Watson added nine serving aces and 32 digs for the hosts.

Wake Tech managed to outlast Johnson & Wales in a back-and-forth contest later that afternoon, defeating the Wildcats 27-25, 15-25, 23-25, 34-32, 15-11.

Johmillet Berrios finished with 16 kills for Johnson & Wales while Tiy Gonzalez added 11 kills of her own.  Reid had a team high 26 digs while Watson collected 42 digs.

"We've been playing high-energy and high-emotion volleyball for two weeks now, and I think it just caught up with us today," said Wildcats head coach Callie Phillips.  "Wake Tech is always a good opponent, and we fought hard in this match. We just didn't have the energy for the final push we needed to seal Game 4 and into Game 5. We still made a lot of plays and played well as a team, so I'm certain we'll learn from this and keep rolling."

Johnson & Wales will resume play on Oct. 3 when it hosts Davidson County Community College at the Wildcat Center.  Play is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
