Box Score 2 Virginia Beach, VA - The USCAA National Championships are underway, and the JWU Volleyball Team is through to the semifinals with consecutive 3-0 wins over Penn State DuBois and Christendom College, respectively.
In the first match, #2 JWU took on #6 Penn State DuBois. The Wildcats came out firing in the first set, winning 25-10. The Lady Lions (19-6) closed the gap in the second set, but the Wildcats finished the set, 25-21. JWU closed it out with a comfortable 25-18 win in the third.
Demya Scott led the team with 9 kills, Moana Reid had 22 assists along with 11 digs, and Kendall Watson added 14 digs.
The second contest of the day matched JWU with #3 Christendom, and Toniya Scott led the way for the Wildcats as she tied a school record with 8 blocks to go with her 8 kills. The Wildcats took the first set from the Crusaders (17-10) with a 25-20 win, but that was the closest set of the three set sweep. JWU (17-14) finished the match with a 25-19 second set and a 25-16 third set win.
Iyana Favor led the team with 9 kills, Moana Reid had 27 assists, and Kendall Watson paced the team with 16 digs.
Head Coach Callie Phillips reflected on the day, "I'm pleased with our energy and aggressiveness today. Our blocking, hitting, and defense combined to frustrate our opponents. We hope to continue this momentum into the semifinals tomorrow. I'm also happy for all of our award winners tonight."
JWU has clinched Pool B and will play the runner-up from Pool A in the semifinals at 4:00 pm on Friday, Nov 9.
