Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Volleyball Team hosted Lenoir Community College and Mid-Atlantic Christian University in a tri-match on Saturday. They celebrated seniors Teyana Eason and Toniya Scott by winning both matches 3-0 to improve to 20-7 on the season.

In the first match, the Wildcats took down Lenoir CC 25-19, 25-20, and 25-20, respectively. JWU combined for 41 kills in only three sets. Kaitlyn Jaromin (.667), Iyana Favor (.562), and Toniya Scott (.500) led the team in hitting percentage. Scott, Favor, and Demya Scott all finished with 10 kills for the match. Moana Reid had 36 assists and 10 digs, while Demya Scott added another 14 digs.

The second match was more of the same as JWU cruised against EMAC foe MACU 25-21, 25-8, and 25-9. The Wildcats collected 38 kills in the match, led by Toniya Scott's 10. Taylor Walker hit .615 while Scott came in at .474 to pace the team. Moana Reid collected another 33 assists to complement her 10 digs. Isabelle LeMaster led the team with four solo blocks.

"This was a great way to wrap up our season and celebrate our seniors," commented JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips. "We are excited about heading into the postseason and defending our title." With the two victories, Phillips brings her collegiate head coaching record above .500, moving to 160-159 since starting the program at Johnson & Wales Charlotte in the 2010-2011 season.

The two seniors recognized by the JWU Volleyball Team are Teyana Eason and Toniya Scott.

Eason is from Gastonia, NC and is a culinary and food service management major. For the 2017 season, she received the Wildcat Award, which was voted on by her teammates. Over her career, Teyana has been a defensive specialist and has found a niche as a designated server. "I'm so proud of T and all that she has overcome in her career," says Coach Phillips. "She is such an inspiration for me and her teammates, and I highly respect her work ethic and capacity for supporting others. We will miss her next season."

Scott is from Waldorf, MD and is a fashion merchandizing major at JWU. A two year captain, last season she was voted to the All-American second team and went on to lead the Wildcats to the national championship and was named tournament MVP. She also received the team's Gold Award, which is given to the most outstanding player. This year, she eclipsed the 1,000 point mark and is only the second player in program history to do so. To date, she has 936 kills, 757 digs, and 332 total blocks. "It has been an honor to watch Toniya develop over her career at JWU," says Coach Phillips. "She has grown into a passionate, articulate, and motivating leader, and our program is very grateful for all of her contributions. We will certainly miss her next season, but she is not quite done for us yet."

The Wildcats, currently ranked #2 in USCAA D2, await their seeding for the USCAA National Championships scheduled for November 7th-9th in Virginia Beach, VA.
