Wildcats Sweep Tri-Match Versus Crusaders and Mustangs

Elizabeth City, NC - The Johnson & Wales Volleyball Team traveled to Mid-Atlantic Christian University for a tri-match vs the host Mustangs and the Crusaders from Christendom College.

In the opening match, JWU took down EMAC foe MACU 3-0. After taking the first set 25-18, the Wildcats had a dominant second set, winning 25-8. JWU finished the match with a 25-19 victory in the third. Iyana Favor led the team with 7 kills. Moana Reid led JWU with 21 assists and 9 digs.

The second match of the day was a rematch of the USCAA D2 2018 championship game, with the Wildcats again sweeping the match 3-0. In set one, the Wildcats earned a hard fought 25-22 win. They would take sets two and three 25-16 and 25-19, respectively. Favor again led in kills, this time with 8. Demya Scott paced the Wildcats with 12 digs, while Reid added 27 assists and 10 digs. 

"We got back to doing things our way in this tri-match," commented JWU Head Coach Callie Phillips. "We were able to control the tempo with good passing and put away our hits. I'm happy with our effort this weekend, despite several of us being under the weather."

The Wildcats return to the court on September 24th when they host Sandhills Community College in the Project Life Movement Game at 6:00 pm.
