Sumter, SC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte Men's Basketball Team took on NAIA opponent Morris College on Wednesday. The Wildcats, ranked #1 in USCAA D2, tied a program record with six double digit scorers as they defeated the Hornets 108-94.

The Wildcats led wire to wire, aided by the quick start in the first quarter. JWU started the game with a 19-4 run. The Wildcats (12-3) extended their lead to 23 points, but the game went into halftime 54-39. The Wildcats sot 70% from the field in the first half.

The Hornets would hang around in the second half, drawing within seven points of the visiting Wildcats, but JWU again extended their lead, winning the game 108-94.

The Wildcats shot 59% for the game compared to 47% for MC. JWU also shot 43% from three point range while limiting the Hornets to 22%. The Wildcats also won the rebounding battle 41-32. 

Brandon Kostyk led the Wildcats in scoring with 24 points, connecting on 8 of 9 three point attempts, including 6 of 6 in the first half. Majerle Poole added 23 for JWU, while Robert Hobson added 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. CJ Miller and Antonio Smith both chipped in 13 points. Smith grabbed 8 rebounds on the day and Miller picked up 4 blocks. Zyrion Wilkins added 10 points of his own. Malik Bullock added 7 assists for JWU.

"Really great effort from our team tonight in a tough environment at Morris," reflected JWU Head Coach Dan Larkin. "I thought we could've done a much better job in transition and guarding the basketball in the half court, but CJ did a tremendous job protecting the rim. We had guys like Rob and Antonio committed to rebounding the ball which went a long way. We are continuing to grow as a team each and every day."

The Wildcats play Blue Lights College on January 18th at 3:00 pm.
