Volleyball Opens Season With Road Sweep

Box Score

Louisburg, NC - The Johnson & Wales Volleyball team kicked off their 2021 season with a sweep on the road at Louisburg College on Wednesday night. The Wildcats won 3-0 behind game scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-20.

Each of the three games followed the same progression. The Wildcats (1-0) jumped out to quick leads and continued to build on those through the middle parts of the game. The Hurricanes (0-1) would rally late to close the gap, but JWU finished off each game before Louisburg could get level.

Emily Arends led the way for JWU with 9 kills and 2 service aces. Demya Scott also had a great game, recording 7 kills while hitting .333. She also had 2 service aces. Burniece Perofeta had 9 assists, while Logan Smith added 7 more. Kaitlyn Jaromin had 3 solo blocks and a block assist to go along with 2 kills.

Coach Phillips was pleased with the defensive effort in the team's first match in two seasons.

The Wildcats are back on the road today, as they travel to USCAA foe Mid-Atlantic Christian for a 5pm contest.
