Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team faced off against three-time defending NCCAA Division II National Champion Bob Jones at home on Tuesday night. JWU showed a lot of fight, but ultimately fell to the Bruins in 3 sets.
The Wildcats started set 1 on the right foot, racing out to an 8-3 lead. The Bruins responded to close the set on a 22-8 run, winning 25-16. Bob Jones (12-3) jumped out to a huge lead in the second. They were up 19-6 before the Wildcats (8-5) stormed back to make it a tight set at 21-18, before eventually falling 25-21. The third set resembled the first, with Bob Jones gaining a big advantage early, before JWU rallied to tighten things up, but again the Bruins prevailed 25-17.
Demya Scott and Emily Arends each had 7 kills to lead the way for JWU, while adding 13 and 14 digs, respectively. Isabelle Lemaster also tallied 5 kills on the evening. Logan Smith handed out 13 assists, while Lynasia Felder recorded 14 digs.
"We played a really good team tonight," said Coach Phillips afterwards. "Despite the outcome, I was proud of the way our team responded to adversity and fought hard to get back into each set."
JWU hits the road on Friday for a tri-match at Emory & Henry, where they take on the host Wasps at 5pm, followed by Regent University at 7pm.
