Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team beat Allen 3-0 Thursday night, their second win over the Yellow Jackets in eight days.
The three sets were remarkably similar; each was close throughout with the Wildcats making the plays at the end to pull out close victories. Allen led 19-18 in the first before JWU rallied to outscore the Yellow Jackets 8-5 to win 26-24. JWU used an Emily Arends kill and an Aimee Evans block to score the deciding points in the set.
The Wildcats led by as many as five points in the second before Allen knotted the set at 22. Consecutive attack errors from the Yellow Jackets provided the final two points of the set for JWU as they won 25-22.
JWU led by four early in the third, but Allen rallied to tie the score at 13. The Yellow Jackets edged in front for the majority of the rest of the set, and at 23-20 were poised to force a fourth. The Wildcats then ran off 5 straight points to end it, getting kills from Arends and Shayla Pope, a service ace from Mikayla Seymour-Tucker, and finally a block from Evans.
Pope led the way for JWU with 9 kills, while Kaylee Atkins added 8. Arends had 5 kills and 9 digs. Evans had 4 kills and 7 solo blocks. Logan Smith handed out 22 assists, while Niecee Perofeta had 20 digs.
The Wildcats wrap up the regular season on Saturday as they host Ferrum and Toccoa Falls for a tri-match. Play begins at 12pm.
