Box Score 2 Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team honored outgoing senior player Emily Arends and student intern coach Jah'Asia Pernell on Friday night prior to the Wildcats' match against Carolina University, and then closed out their regular season schedule against Ferrum College on Saturday afternoon.
JWU fell to Carolina University 3-0 on Friday night in a competitive, high-intensity match. The Bruins won 25-18, 25-22, 25-18. CU outhit JWU .271 to .232, while tallying 43 kills to just 28 for the Wildcats. Arends and Shayla Pope led the Wildcat attack with 7 kills each. Logan Smith had 21 assists, while Niecee Perofeta recorded 12 digs and Mikayla Seymour-Tucker added 11 more.
Saturday's matinee saw Ferrum also sweep the Wildcats 3-0 by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-17. Ahmarie Young had 9 kills to go along with 22 digs to pace JWU. Arends tallied 7 kills, while Smith dished out 20 assists. Perofeta had 15 digs, while Chanel Garcia chipped in with 13 of her own.
Tuesday's scheduled match against Salem has been canceled, so the Wildcats' regular season is complete. They now await the USCAA National Championships selection show on November 2nd to learn if they receive a bid to the national championships.
