Box Score Winston-Salem, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team wrapped up the 2022 portion of their schedule with a 76-58 win over Salem on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats trailed 7-2 early in the first quarter and did not lead until a Tanaeschia Dorsey jumper put JWU up 17-16 with a minute to play in the period. Dorsey scored 7 points in the stanza, while Aimee Evans added 6.
The second quarter proved pivotal, as JWU shot 62.5% from the field, including 3-6 from three point range. The Wildcats outscored the Spirits 28-15, as Jayla Lovett came off the bench to score 13 of her game-high 20 points, while Joyiah White chipped in with 7 points of her own.
Salem trimmed the Wildcat lead to 11 after 30 minutes, but JWU responded with a 14-2 run to start the final period, extending their lead to a game-high 23 points.
JWU shot 43.8% from the field and got 8 or more points from five players. The Wildcats forced Salem into 27 turnovers and played the Spirits to a deadlock on the boards at 41 apiece.
Lovett's 20 points were augmented by 14 from Dorsey. Jordan Durant scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Evans and Joyiah White combined to score 16 points and grab 17 rebounds.
JWU is off until January 5th when they travel to Washington Adventist for a 5:00pm game.
