Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball team improved to 5-6 with a 75-74 win over Brevard on Thursday night.
The visiting Tornados jumped out to a 7-0 advantage in the game's first two and a half minutes, and held that lead for much of the first half. A Nathan Meshida layup put the Wildcats up 28-27 as part of an 8-0 run that took the Wildcats from down four to up four int the half's final four minutes. A three pointer by Brevard's Chancey Watson trimmed the JWU lead to just one at the break, 31-30.
The Wildcats held the lead for the entirety of the second half, seeing it grow as large as 9 points on a Jaylen Benson-Hollinhead charity toss with seven and a half minutes left. Brevard got within two in the final minute, but a JC Cooper free throw pushed the lead to three, and Watso missed a game-tying three pointer in the closing seconds.
Anthoney Ray scored 25 points to lead the Wildcats, while Fred Patterson had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Benson-Hollinhead had 5 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Zyrion Wilkins came off the bench to score 9 points and grab 8 boards.
The Wildcats travel to Elon for a 2pm game on Sunday, 12/11.
