Women's Hoops Closes Out Regular Season With Win

Newport News, VA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team downed Apprentice School 91-69 on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the regular season at 17-3.

How It Happened:
  • The Wildcats jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the first quarter as they shot 67% from the field (10-15) while Apprentice was just 3-11 from the field.
  • Mariana Ballard made consecutive three pointers to open the second quarter as the JWU lead grew to as much as 20 before settling at 15, 42-27 at halftime.
  • The Builders scored the first six points of the third quarter to briefly trim their deficit to 9.
  • JWU outscored Apprentice 27-17 during the rest of the third quarter to take a 69-50 lead after 30 minutes.
  • The Wildcats cruised from that point, eventually winning 91-69.

  • JWU shot 46.8% from the field, second best in a game this season.
  • JWU outrebounded the Builders 45-31.
  • Tanaeschia Dorsey had a game-high 25 points to go along with 3 assists and 2 steals.
  • Jayla Lovett had 14 points and 6 rebounds, while Jordan Durant scored 14 points and had 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.
  • Jordan McDuffie had 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals.
