Bluefield, WV - Johnson & Wales Charlotte suffered their first loss of the season on Thursday night, falling 3-1 to Bluefield State.

How It Happened:

• JWU led 13-9 in the first set before Bluefield State ran off 9 consecutive points to take an 18-13 lead en route to a 25-21 win.
• The Big Blues continued that momentum into the second set, as they scored the first 10 points of the stanza, and cruised to a 25-9 win.
• The Wildcats again fell down early in set 3, surrendering the first four points of the period. They fought back to lead by as many as eight at 16-8, and finished off the set 25-18 to force a fourth.
• A third slow start proved too much for JWU to overcome in the fourth. Bluefield State jumped out to an 13-5 lead, and were never threatened, eventually winning 25-17.

• Bluefield State hit .333 for the match, while JWU hit on .204
• Emily Arends had 12 kills to lead the Wildcats in her season debut.
• Shayla Pope had 8 kills, 1 dig, and 1 solo block.
