Box Score 2 Lynchburg, VA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte volleyball team split two matches on Saturday at the Randolph College tri-match.
The Wildcats picked up a default win over Regent in their first match of the day when Regent was unable to field six players following their match against Randolph earlier in the day.
In the second match against Randolph, the hosts used a 9-0 run to break open the first set, as they would go on to win 25-11. JWU fought back in the second, taking a 3-0 lead at the start, and eventually extending the lead to 10-6. Randolph rallied to tie the score at 13 and then took the lead at 15-14. The set remained close until Randolph won 5 of the last 6 points to take the set 25-20.
JWU again controlled the early portion of the third, and led by two points at 13-11. Randolph surged through the middle portion of the set, turning the two point deficit into a 19-16 lead. JWU ran off four straight points to inch ahead at 20-19. Randolph again closed strong, taking 6 of the last 7 points to win the match 3-0.
Emily Arends had 8 kills to lead the JWU attack. Kaylee Atkins added 5 kills and 3 digs. Niecee Perofeta and Logan Smith combined for 19 assists, while Mikayla Seymour-Tucker an Ahmarie Young tallied 12 digs each.
JWU continues their road swing when they travel to Pfieffer on Tuesday, Sept. 20th for a 7pm match.
