Spirits Down Wildcats In Four Sets

Winston-Salem, NC - Salem College defeated Johnson & Wales 3-1 in volleyball action on Tuesday night.

How It Happened:
  • Salem used an 8-0 run in the middle of the first set to jump out to a 14-5 lead, and outpointed the Wildcats 11-4 the rest of the way to take Set 1.
  • Set two went back and forth initially as kills from Ahmarie Young and Emily Arends kept the Wildcats close.
  • The Spirits slowed edged in front, posting their largest lead at 18-12. 
  • JWU rallied from that point, scoring 13 of the final 15 points of the set to claim the win, 25-20.
  • Salem jumped out early in Set 3, leading 7-0 before the Wildcats got on the board. The Spirits would go on to easily win the set 25-10.
  • The fourth set was nearly a carbon copy of the third, as Salem scored the first five points of the set, extended their lead to 10 at 16-6, and finished off the set 25-15.

  • Salem hit .324 for the match, while the Wildcats hit just .135
  • Young and Arends combined for 15 kills.
  • Niecee Pefofeta had 15 assists.
  • JWU falls to 5-5. Salem improves to 1-0.
