Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball team snapped a two game losing streak on Friday night with an 85-81 win over Voorhees.
The Wildcats started quickly, jumping out to a 23-6 lead in the games' first nine minutes, paced by 9 points from Nathan Meshida. Voorhees was able to trim the lead to just one with a minute to play in the period before two Anthony Ray free throws just before halftime posted JWU to a 40-37 lead after 20 minutes.
The Tigers used an 8-2 run out of the locker room to take their biggest lead of the game, 45-42 at the 17:58 mark of the second half. The Wildcats regained the lead shortly after and held the advantage for much of the next ten minutes. An Ethan Smith three pointer put JWU up by eight with 5:23 to play. Voorhees responded by scoring 9 of the next 11 points in the game to get within 1 point at 75-74 with four minutes to play. JWU finished strong, going 6 for 6 at the free throw line and getting three dunks in the final minutes to hold off the Tigers.
Ray scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats. Zyrion Wilkins added 13 off the bench, while Jaylen Benson-Hollinhead scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Fred Patterson had 11, while Meshida finished with 10 points.
The Wildcats are back in action today as they travel to Carolina University for a 4pm tipoff.
