Box Score Fredericksburg, VA - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team completed a semester-opening two game road trip at Mary Washington University on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles pulled away late for a 57-45 win over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats started fast, jumping out to an 8-4 lead in the game's first four minutes, and led 10-9 after one quarter. Mary Washington responded in the second quarter, twice building five point leads, but JWU was able to close within three at the half behind 8 first half points from Tanaeschia Dorsey and 7 from Jayla Lovett.
The Eagles pushed their lead to 15 after 30 minutes, as JWU could only muster 5 points in the quarter. Mary Washington maintained their advantage for the first three minutes of the final stanza before five straight points from Lovett ignited a 10-1 JWU run that cut the deficit to 40-43 with just over four minutes to play. The Wildcats could get no closer though, as Mary Washington scored the final five points of the game.
Dorsey led the Wildcats with 16 points, while Lovett added 12. Joyiah White pulled down 9 rebounds, while Jordan Durant grabbed 8.
JWU returns home on Thursday, January 12th to host Voorhees for a 7pm game.
