Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stout Defense Sends Wildcats Back To Title Game

Corapolis, PA - The top seeded Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's soccer team blanked 4th seeded Central Maine Community College on Sunday afternoon to clinch a spot in the USCAA Division II National Championship game for the second consecutive season, and fourth time in the last five seasons.

Juan Santana-Urieta gave the Wildcats a dream start, as his free kick from 20 yards out found the back of the net just two and a half minutes into the game. The JWU defense held up their end of the bargain for the rest of the half, limiting the Mustangs to just 3 shots. Colin Starr made a lunging save on the only one of those which was on target to keep CMCC off the scoreboard with six minutes remaining in the half.

Central Maine again could only muster three shots in the first third of the second period, and saw their deficit doubled when Evan Retzlaff swung a pass into the box from the left wing that Dylan Steeves guided into the back of the net.

Lucas Lesh and Christopher Haynes went on to add insurance tallies in the final dozen minutes to salt the game away.

JWU held the Mustangs to just 9 shots on the afternoon, with Starr making 4 saves. The Wildcats earned 11 corner kicks and took 25 shots at the CMCC goal.

The Wildcats advance to Monday afternoon's national championship game, which features a re-match of the 2022 final. They will square off against Berkeley (NJ) at 1:00pm. The game will be played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, PA.
