Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team held off Spartanburg Methodist 84-79 on Tuesday night.

How It Happened:

• SMC jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the game's first seven minutes. and eventually led by as many as 8 in the first quarter.
• The Wildcats responded with a 10-0 run to start the second quarter to turn a six point deficit into a four point lead.
• JWU continued to extended their lead throughout the rest of the quarter, and when Victoria Boddie hit a 3 pointer just before halftime, the Wildcats found themselves ahead 40-30 at the break.
• A Tanaeschia Dorsey 3 pointer with twenty-three seconds left in the third period gave JWU it's biggest lead of the night, 67-52.
• The Pioneers would no go away quietly, however. They ripped off a 20-3 run over the next five and a half minutes to grab a 72-70 advantage. 
• The Wildcats responded immediately with a 7-0 run, keyed by a Jordan Durant three pointer to put them up by 3 with 2:41 to play.
• JWU made 6 of 10 free throws in the closing minutes to seal the win.

• SMC outrebounded JWU 54-40.
• JWU forced 18 Pioneer turnovers.
• Jordan Durant led JWU with 23 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
• Tanaeschia Dorsey had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
• Makiya McDaniel and Aimee Evans combined for 20 points and 12 rebounds.
