Box Score Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's basketball team topped the century mark for the second consecutive game as they defeated Virginia University of Lynchburg 101-94 on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats raced out to a 31 point halftime lead as they were red hot from the field, hitting 76% of their shots (26-34). JWU's advantage increased to as much as 37 early in the second half before the Dragons rallied to make it a game. They picked up their shooting, hitting 44% of their tries in the second after only shooting 32% in the first half. They also earned 21 free throw attempts, converting 14 of those to aid their cause. VUL trimmed 30 points off the Wildcat lead with two minutes to play, but a Chalen Stafford-Gill offensive rebound and putback effectively ended any further Dragon uprising.
Anthoney Ray and Fred Patterson had 27 points and 8 rebounds each, while the duo also combined for 11 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks. Ray scored his 1,000th career point late in the first half and now has 1,014 total. Zyrion Wilkins had 13 points on 6 of 6 shooting to go along with 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Ethan Smith added 11 points.
The Wildcats are back at home on Tuesday, Feb. 7th as they host Washington Adventist at 6pm.
