Women's Basketball Stages 2nd Half Comeback

Charlotte, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Voorhees University with a 69-56 win on Saturday afternoon.

How it happened:
  • The Wildcats took a 10-5 lead over the first five minutes as they made half of their 10 field goal attempts, and forced seven Voorhees miscues.
  • JWU led by as many as ten points at 17-7, before settling for a 17-12 advantage after the first period. 
  • The Tigers caught fire to open the second quarter, making 5 three pointers as part of a 17-3 run that gave them a 29-20 lead with 6:11 left in the half.
  • Two McKenzie Taylor three pointers helped JWU chip away at the Voorhees lead, and the Wildcats went into halftime trailing by just two, 34-32.
  • The Wildcats took charge in the third quarter, opening the half with a 16-2 spurt that put them ahead 48-36 with 4:24 remaining in the period. 
  • An Adia Boudin jumper mid way through the fourth quarter pushed the JWU lead to its largest at 60-42 before the Wildcats settled for the thirteen point final margin of victory.

  • JWU improves to 14-3, while JWU falls to 4-11.
  • After making 6 of 10 three point shots in the first half, Voorhees converted just 3 of 15 attempts in the second.
  • The Wildcats rebounded 38% of their misses, which led to 16 second chance points.
  • Jamyah Blakeney and McKenzie Taylor each scored 19 points to lead the Wildcats.
  • Gabby Tapley had 8 points and 11 rebounds.
