Virginia Beach, VA - Host Regent University defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 71-70 on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats trailed by a bucket at the break, 27-25, but outscored the Royals 20-12 in the third quarter to take a six point advantage into the final stanza. The teams combined for 57 points in a wild final ten minutes that saw JWU lead by as many as eleven points. However the score was tied with ten seconds remaining before
Aimee Evans hit a 15 foot jumper to put the Wildcats up b two at 70-68. Regent's Layla Turner responded with a convential three point play in the dying seconds to give the Royals a 71-70 win.
Jordan Durant led the Wildcats with 21 points to go along with 9 rebounds. Evans (14 points, 15 rebounds) and
Gabby Tapley (12 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles.Â
JWU's regular season is complete. They now await the reveal of the USCAA National Championship field to determine if they will advance to the postseason.
