Roanoke, VA - Roanoke College swept a pair of matches against Johnson & Wales on Sunday afternoon in men's and women's tennis.
The Maroons women won eight of nine matches. JWU's
Erin Weidner won the #5 singles match 6-4, 6-0 over Roanoke's Sidney Wright.Â
The men's match went down to the wire, with the final match deciding the result. Roanoke jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles. JWU's #2 doubles tandem of
Sam Cicciarello and
John Billinis prevailing over Julio Marques and Hardt Lesko 8-4. The Wildcats evened things up with wins by
Justin Wagner and
Hugo Cossais in the #3 and #4 singles matches. Cicciarello picked up his second win of the afternoon in the #5 singles match 6-4, 6-2 over the Maroons' Marco Gustafson to again knot the score at 4.
Dylan Hight couldn't overcome Lance Behler in the #6 singles tilt, losing 6-4, 6-3 to give Roanoke the final point.
The teams are next in action on March 30th, as they travel to Columbia (SC) College for a 2:00pm match.
