Tennis Wraps Road Slate At Belmont Abbey

Belmont, NC - The Johnson & Wales Charlotte men's and women's tennis teams concluded the road portion of their 2023-24 schedule against Belmont Abbey on Friday morning.

The Wildcat men got on the board early, earning the point in doubles action. Jonathan Millwood teamed with Justin Wagner to win the #1 doubles match 6-4. John Billinis and Sam Cicciarello duplicated that feat in the #2 doubles tilt to secure the point for JWU.

Billinis won the #2 singles match over the Crusaders' Nicolas Bltazar 6-4, 6-4, and Hugo Cossais came away with a 6-1, 7-6 (10-5) win over Jaden Johnson in the #4 singles match. The Wildcats were close in a couple of the other singles matches, most notably the #5 singles match, where Cicciarello went three sets with Kaleb Burrage, ultimately falling 6-4, 6-7 (5-10), 4-10.

The women saw Kourtney Newton and Erin Weidner win two games in their doubles matchup with Anna Steiner and Yaritza Gonzalez. In singles action, Payton Abrams saw the most success, falling 6-0, 6-2 to Andi Billingsley.

The Wildcats' final regular season match scheduled to be at Southern Virginia CC on Friday, April 26th has been moved to a home match on Monday, April 29th at 5:00pm.
