Charlotte, NC - Caldwell Technical Institute and Community College rallied for an extra points five set victory over Johnson & Wales Charlotte on Thursday evening.
The Wildcats won the first two sets in similar fashion. JWU trailed for virtually the entirety of those periods, before rallying at the end to win by scores of 25-22 and 27-25. CTICCÂ did not relinquish a late set lead in the third period, winning 25-19, and then cruised to a 25-5 win in the fourth to send the match to a deciding set.
JWU jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the final stanza, before the Cobras rallied to lead 8-7 at the change of sides. The Wildcats had a match point side out at 14-13, but CTICCÂ won four of the final five points of the match to emerge with a 17-15 fifth set win.
Ashley Galvis-Escobar led JWU with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Gabrielle Bazile added 9 kills, while
Chanel Garcia recorded 24 digs.
Loshi Ward dished out 29 assists and dug up 17 balls.
JWU returns to action on Saturday, September 28th when they welcome in Carolina University and Claflin University for a doubleheader. Matches begin at 1pm.
