Danville, Va. - Averett University defeated Johnson & Wales Charlotte 90-60 in women's basketball on Monday afternoon.
The two teams each scored 17 points in the first quarter, and were still knotted at 27 with 6:28 to play in the half.
Sydney Wells made one of her two three pointers on the afternoon to put the Wildcats ahead 27-24 before Averett went on a 12-1 run to take an eight point lead at 36-28. JWU could only trim two points off of that deficit before the halftime buzzer.
Averett pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring JWU 27-4. The Wildcats struggled from the field, making just one of twelve field goal attempts.Â
Wells led the Wildcats with 12 points, while
Laylah Toscano added 10 points and 9 rebounds.
The Wildcats are off until December 31st when they make the short trip to Johnson C. Smith for a 1:00pm game.
